We compare minimalistic training spaces to rich, theme-based VR worlds to study how scene design influences motivation and sustained effort in exergames. Themed environments increased enjoyment and voluntary session length without compromising perceived exertion, particularly when environmental feedback was tied to player performance. Design recommendations are distilled for motivating long-term physical activity.
