Standardization

Why standardization

Standardization defines how a field measures itself: without agreed test methods, results from different labs cannot be compared. Contributing to standardization means shaping those shared methods before they are decided elsewhere. This is a small and specialized part of academic output — most researchers publish papers; few also sit on the standards bodies that define how their field measures quality.
