Alongside the larger events covered in our other recent posts — our visit to Klinikum Lippstadt, our booth at the BMWE Innovationstag Mittelstand in Berlin, and our school event at Stadtlabor Soest — the Immersive Reality Lab hosted several smaller visits and workshops between mid-June and mid-July 2026. Here's a quick round-up of four of them.
Lab Tour for Lippstadt Residents (June 19, 2026)
On June 19, 2026, we welcomed a group of Lippstadt residents for a guided tour of the lab, including our CAVE, and an overview of our current research. It's always a good reminder of how many people in the city have never set foot in a CAVE before — and how quickly that changes once the door closes and the projection starts.
“Erlebe die VR”: A Workshop for Graf-Bernhard-Realschule
As part of a three-hour tour of the university, we presented the lab to a computer science course from Graf-Bernhard-Realschule as part of the workshop “Erlebe die VR” (“Experience VR”), giving students a first hands-on impression of what immersive media looks like in practice.
Unity Crash Course at the RE:SKILL Future Skills Day (July 3, 2026)
On July 3, 2026, as part of the RE:SKILL Future Skills Tag, we hosted a Unity crash course in the lab — a compact, practical introduction to building interactive 3D and VR content in the engine we use for much of our own prototyping.
Hanse-Kolleg Lippstadt Visits the Lab (July 14, 2026)
On July 14, 2026, students from Hanse-Kolleg Lippstadt visited the lab for an introduction to the basics of immersive media — what it is, and where it is used — followed by hands-on VR and AR demonstrations on different devices and a look at our CAVE.
They also got insight into an ongoing area of our research: the use of immersive technologies for exposure training, for example for people with a fear of public speaking. It connects to a broader line of work in our lab on VR-based exposure approaches for speech-related anxiety, which we've also explored in published research.
A Season of Open Doors
Four very different groups, one common thread: opening the lab's doors and letting people try immersive technology for themselves, rather than just hearing about it.
If you'd like to arrange a lab tour, workshop, or class visit, we'd love to hear from you.
